Avalaunch Web-Guide
Installation as an Application
Now that you have everything in the requirements section lets get to work on putting Avalaunch on your Xbox. First lets just get Ava running as an app through Evox.
- First you'll need to extract the avalaunch048.4 rar with WinRAR. When you do this you should end up with 5 things in your avalaunch folder.
A media folder
A shoutcast folder
avalaunch.xml file
avalaunch048.nfo
and finally a default.xbe
- Take the extracted directory and using FlashFXP copy the entire directory to your xbox harddrive. Which partition is entirely up to you as avalaunch will run from anywhere. Just make sure you know the partition and folder name. If you have evox setup to autoadd items it would be easier to copy the avalaunch folder to that directory and evox will list it automatically.
- If you evox is not setup to autoadd items then you'll need to manually edit the evox.ini file. While your in FlashFXP and connected to the xbox navigate to the C:\ partition and copy the evox.ini file to your PC.Open evox.ini with notepad and scroll down to the menu section. You'll need to add the following line in the menu section
Item "Avalaunch 0.48.4","f:\Apps\avalaunch0484\default.xbe" . Just make sure your path matches the partition and folder name of your avalaunch directory.
- That should be it Avalaunch is now ready to be run as an app from Evox.
Installation as main dashboard
There are alot of different ways to setup Avalaunch as you main dash. I'll try and cover the most popular ones here. Ok now lets get ava running as your main dash.
Installing on an Xbox already running Evox dashboard.
- Extract the avalaunch0484.rar
- Open the folder that was created and rename the default.xbe file to evoxdash.xbe or whatever your bios is currently booting to.
- Open up FlashFXP and navigate to the C:\ partition. You'll see a file named evoxdash.xbe. Rename evoxdash.xbe to evox.xbe
- Copy the default.xbe that you renamed to evoxdash.xbe in step two to the root of the C:\ partition of your xbox's harddrive, as well as the media folder, shoutcast folder, and avalaunch.xml. *note make sure all of these go in the root of C:\ and not in a subfolder.
- That's it. You've renamed Avalaunch's executable to evoxdash.xbe and you bios will now load that on startup.
Installing on a Freshly modded Xbox.
- First off your going to need to make an ISO to boot an avalaunch boot disc. Your going to need to download Qwix (which is an iso program, your going to want this program later anyways so best to get it and learn how to use it now). You can get Qwix by clicking here.
- Now extract the contents of the avalaunch048.rar as well as the qwix.rar you just downloaded.
- Run the Qwix program and Select the folder that you extracted the avalaunch048.rar to. Click the Create ISO button and Qwix will ask for a filename for the iso. Name it what you want.
- Burn this ISO to a DVD or CD that your XBox can read. You cannot burn this to a disc as a data disc, you must have software capable of burning .iso images such as Stomp Record Now Max or Nero
- Now we need a bios that will boot your avalaunch dashboard. For this tutorial we'll use the X2 4977 bios. You can probably get this where you got your copy of the avalaunch0484.rar but I'll leave the finding up to you. Once you get your bios you'll need to edit it in a program called XBtool which you can get here.
- Run XBtool and open up your X2 4977 bios. You'll see a section called "Boot Partitions and Executables". Make the 1st section C:\avalaunch.xbe , 2nd section C:\evoxdash.xbe , and 3rd section C:\xboxdash.xbe. Save your bios and flash it by whatever means you use to flash your particular chip.
- After flashing your chip insert the avalaunch boot disc you made into your Xbox's DVD drive. Provided you've burned the disc properly and it's on media your xbox can read you see your first taste of the avalaunch dashboard. Go into the filemanager section and on the left side choose the D:\ partition which is your Xbox's DVD drive. On the right side of the filemanager go to the C:\ partition. On the Left side press the X button on all four of the files and folders (media,shoutcast,avalaunch.xml,default.xbe). This will add the files to the queue. Now hit start and select transfer queue
- After files have been transferred highlight the default.xbe file on the right side of the screen and press the start button and choose the rename option and rename the file to avalaunch.xbe
- Turn off you xbox. When you restart it should now boot to your new default dashboard AVALAUNCH! Congrats.
