Chot makes his way back to the Go-Backs. He tells them how the attack on the Sun Village
failed and he couldn't get the little Palace (HY # 2). They must get it for Kahvi. Arri
mentions Rayeks tales of the Tunnel of Golden Light leading under the mountains. Zey will
be the most powerful chief of all. Windkin, Dart, and Shushen are on the Bridge of
Destiny. The ash from the volcano is worse, the land drier. Kimo and Yun arrive. Shushen
blames the Go-Backs for their problems and takes it out on Yun. Kimo breaks it up. A group
of Go-Backs travel through tunnels. They come to a stream. They attack and kill two
trolls. Scouter, Mender, and Ahdri find the well dry. All that's left is in their
store-holes. Ahdri feels that everything below is dry, like the mountain is sucking the
life from the land. It starts shaking and explodes. Soot and fire-rocks hit the village.
People are hurt. The zwoots will stampede. Dart and Shushen will get the jackwolfriders.
Scouter will watch for the zwoots. Yun enters a hut and wakes Kahvi and Tyldak from
wrapstuff. Kahvi still wants the Palace. Tyldak tells Yun to let her go. The Go-Backs come
out of the tunnel and into the Burning Waste. The sky is black, blocking the sun. It's an
omen of good luck.
New Blood # 12 "War" Part 2
Dart and Shushen are rounding up the other jackwolf riders. Ash and debris rain down.
Windkin finds Scouter. Many are hurt. Ahdri gives up, but Savah says it's not over. She'll
guide them. Kahvi sneaks around in the confusion. Yun tells Savah she's after the little
Palace again. The palace is hidden elsewhere. Tyldak flies off for help. Zwoots are headed
for the village. Dart and his riders turn them away. Zey, Chot, and the Go-Backs arrive at
Sorrow's End to see the volcano erupt again. They start their attack. One aims and fires
at Shushen. Dart finds him on the ground. He kills the Go-Back in a rage. Other Sun
Villagers join the attack. Kahvi finds the Palace. There, Newstar was tied up by her son
and lifemate for her protection. Kahvi sees the other Go-Backs, sees Dart kill Jekko. Zey
is angry. Chot told him she was dead. Savah holds Mender back from the fight. He's their
healer. A Go-Back is about to kill his brother Wing. He kills the Go-Back. Kimo's father
is killed. Chot wounds Yun and she strikes back. Kahvi battles Zey and kills him. It
starts raining. Kahvi says it's a fall from the Go-Backs' honor. Preservers wrap up the
wounded. Chot stays with the Sun Folk and Kahvi and Tyldak return to the Go-Backs. Dart
holds Shushen's body.
New Blood # 13 (p 1 - 8) "Forevergreen" Part 1
Filth rains down on Sorrow's End. Dart says it's all over and walks away with Shushen's
body. After days their food starts to dwindle. Preservers start wrapping some to prevent
starvation. Ahdri gets better at rock-shaping. A cave is created where they can live.
Clear rock above allows for light to grow food. Woodlock and Rainsong count the years the
Wolfriders sleep. Eventually they return to the surface. Dart tells Newstar he can't bear
the memories and goes in wrapstuff, as do Mender, Newstar, Scouter and Dewshine.
