# 14 - 26New Blood # 14 "Forevergreen" Part 2
Windkin awakes and looks below. Dart trains the Sun Villagers in how to defend against
humans. Chot teases Suntop again, but he's too cheerful to be bothered. He goes to Savah.
She drops a bead in a bowl of water. The ripples are a sending. The edge of the bowl is
the end of sending range. But for Suntop there are no edges. Someday he'll be able to send
with anyone, from anywhere. He feels a sending from the jungle far south. He sends to
Rayek and shows him (HY # 9.5). It's a powerful elf. They can use the Palace to get there.
Later, they learn to Palace was destroyed (HY # 10). Windkin says he's flown over the
Forevergreen in one of his long flights. He'll go there again with his new glider-wings,
made of wrapstuff. They'll give him three eights, then they're coming. Soon he flies over
a travel-line. A troll tells humans they all must die. Days later Suntop talks to Dart.
They see the glow of a human fire nearby. In the Forevergreen, Windkin reaches a tower
with a stone three-fingered hand at the top. Children's fingers are cut in a ceremony.
They see Windkin and blow darts, bringing him down.
New Blood # 15 "Forevergreen" Part 3
Dart and Kimo hide among rocks as four humans led by Bailon and a toll Thuggop. Dark and
Kimo play with the shadows and scare them off. The humans want a faster way through the
desert by crossing the mountains. Windkin's been gone two eights. Chot is angry at Suntop
again but Yun shuts him up. Suntop and Savah feel Windkin's sending. He's hurt. The others
come. Yun gets impatient and heads out. The others prepare. Savah says they dare not
become real to humans. She gives Suntop a dagger. Dodia, Dart, Jethel, and Kimo are ready.
Savah says the meaning of this journey will become clear. Chot must go too, he's trouble
for the village. They all say goodbye. Shenshen goes with them. They head out. Windkin
awakes tied to the stone hand. He sees the humans' chief Aramek, father of the Hungtsho.
The humans below wait to hear the spirit's words, through Aramek's lips of course. The
spirit is pleased. He pushes two human offerings to their deaths. Dart and the others hide
behind a dune as humans pass. Dawn in the Forevergreen: Windkin is taken down to the
worship-house and caged. Food is brought. Behind a symbol of two clasping hands comes a
sending. The wall opens and there sits an elf.
New Blood # 16 "Forevergreen" Part 4
Dart, Kimo, Suntop, Chot, Dodia, Jethel, and Shenshen move through a dry riverbed. They
see scavenger birds. Yun is buried up to her head. Humans use her for target practice. The
humans hear a scream and see Chot dancing. They're about to fire when Dart hits one in the
shoulder. They're surrounded. Chot and Jethel run at them, not listening to Dart. The
humans run. The Forevergreen: Windkin is in the tower. The elf is Door. Windkin asks why
they are captives. It's been done for generations. It was beautiful when the Hoan G'Tay
Sho arrived. He sent them an image of the past so they would come. He can't correct it
alone. They wouldn't come if they knew the truth. The elves reach the Vastdeep Water. They
make camp by a stream in the forest. Suntop and Jethel see a leaf floating. They know how
to cross the water. Forevergreen: Ge-o'ka enters the temple to see his father Aramek and
his mistress. He saw the little red forest demon again. The woman laughs and teases him.
He's sent off to play. The elves board a leaf-like boat. Chot must be carried on. Later
they talk about Skywise. Yun wonders if he's her father. A storm is coming.
New Blood # 17 "Forevergreen" Part 5
The elves are tossed by large waves. Suntop senses something other than the storm. It
becomes worse and starts tearing the boat apart. The lost city of the Hoan G'tay Sho: A
chain keeps Windkin from flying off the ledge of his prison. The servants notice his
sadness. Inside, Door awakes. He dreamed about a tall elf woman with long black hair. He
asks his female companion to stay. The elves see land in the distance. A giant monster
attacks, knocking them in all directions. A jackwolf is eaten. Dart stabs it as it dives.
Shenshen and Chot come up together, as do Dart and Yun. Willowsnap follows Ge-o'ka, who
wears Windkin's clothes. Ge-o'ka tells the four other boys to kill it. One grabs it but is
covered in wrapstuff. They leave him and run after the preserver, going the wrong way.
Chot is unconscious on a beach. Suntop walks through the huge jungle-like forest. He feels
at home in the Forevergreen. Jethel finds him. Shenshen wakes Chot. He should've been
watching out for Suntop. Dodia drags supplies up. Suntop returns saying he's not a child.
Chot is his friend. They need to search for Dart.
New Blood # 18 "Forevergreen" Part 6
Dart and Yun are on the beach. They walk up steps going to the top of a cliff. Dart feels
like they're being watched. Kimo jumps out. He couldn't find the others. They get to the
top and find a stone tomb with a familiar symbol. Yun won't go in, she's afraid of
enclosed spaces. Inside there's an eerie green glow and a dead human. Dart knew him. He
brought his people and Dart's together. Yun sees the others. They can't hear them over the
waves. Human boats chase Suntop's group and catch them in nets. At the edge of the Burning
Waste, Bailon and three others reach a city, saying a demon kept them out. He swears to
return and kill them all if he must. The temple in Forevergreen: Door looks through a
glass ceiling. Windkin says he has the power to free them both. Aramek arrives and Windkin
calls him a monster. The Chosen Mate calls Aramek away. A female servant asks Windkin not
to speak that way. Door's in a world of his own, he travels within. She, Kin-chi, and
Quaila serve Door, and belong to those who oppose Aramek. They will help him, but must be
quick or her people will kill Dart's friends. Elsewhere Aramek swears to make Windkin
perform. Painted humans think Suntop and the others are Aramek allies. Dart's group
follows.
New Blood # 19 "Forevergreen" Part 7
Dart, Kimo, and Yun watch the human village across the river. Suntop, Chot, Dodia,
Shenshen, and Jethel are caught. The humans speak elf. The first spirits drove the old
ways from their people. They'll return them in fire. The elves are locked up. The humans
hail their leader Pei-lar. Dart blames himself. He was too sure. Kimo says they all
believe in him. They can't go right in or the humans will kill them. The city of the
Hoan-G'tay-Sho: A guard leads Windkin and a slave boy up the tower. Windkin goes to see
Aramak. Aramak's father and grandfather taught his people to worship the spirits. Door
isn't considered a prisoner. Windkin doesn't understand. Aramak and his followers want to
be like spirits. It hurts to be around them, they feel inferior. He doesn't want pity, and
opens a window. Windkin wants to help restore them to what they were. The Burning Waste:
The human boy brings Thuggop food, while the elders talk. The troll knows a way through.
In the jungle, Pei-lar says it's time. The elves say they don't know Aramak. Dart and the
others attack. They'll free them or die with them. Pei-lar says stop. Dart says Aramak
holds their friend. They'll talk it over.
New Blood # 20 "Forevergreen" Part 8
The humans celebrate their new-found friends. The elves watch with Pei-lar. Chot shows the
humans how to do the dance of the big fish catch. Jethel leaves to go to sleep. Chot
eventually trips and falls. Pei-lar wants to attack Aramak together. Dodia finds Jethel.
He's upset that no one cares that her Sandflea was killed. She is, she lost a friend.
Suntop gets a sending from Windkin. He'll stay and aid Door and the humans. Dart won't
have the humans told. Suntop sends to Savah. She doesn't tell him of the village's plight.
The human city in a cliff: Bailon comes to Thuggop. The boy says Thuggop needs things
across the desert. He'll get them through. Thuggop tells the boy not to say another word.
Suntop and Jethel find Yun sitting by a pool. She wants to be alone. She looks in the
water and an elf comes up and then dives. Morning, in the city. Aramek looks out a window,
smashing a glass. Windkin tells Door he has to show the humans he's a kind spirit and end
the fighting. Ge-O'Ka hits Windkin with a dart, the will of Aramek. Pei-Lar's people are
ready. Dart wants to wait. He wants to scout the city first. Jethel and Suntop come.
Windkin was placed in a hole. It's time for war.
New Blood # 21 "Forevergreen" Part 9
Aramek has Windkin in a cell below. He hates him for living forever. Windkin says his hate
is jealousy, a human sickness. The human camp: The elves and humans are boarding boats.
Kimo tells Dart not to do anything rash. They head out. Shenshen, Kimo, Suntop, and Jethel
stay. When they go to rescue Windkin, Suntop may go along. Shenshen finds them. Suntop's
tired of being ignored. His sister Ember will be chief (New Blood is a year behind Hidden
Years at this point). Windkin sends that Aramek means to kill him. Suntop passes it on to
Dart. Auroa weeps in Door's chamber. They love him and want him to stop Aramek. She loses
him. It's all going wrong. She tells the boys to find Pei-Lar. Door gets up and traps
their feet. He's all that remains of the Black Snake. Ge-O'ka, Ahn-Lai, and four others
see Pei-Lar and attack. Dart, Chot, Yun, and Dodia attack. They notice Ge-O'ka wears
Windkin's clothes. Ahn-Lai runs. Willowsnap looks in Aramek's window. His mate asks what
they'll do. Ahn-Lai comes with news. Pei-Lar has spirits. He's sent to the dungeon. Any
survivors of the attack are to be killed so no tales lurk. The jungle will run red with
blood.
New Blood # 22 "Forevergreen" Part 10
A guard takes Ahn-Lai down to the dungeon next to Windkin. Willowsnap follows. It sees
Windkin and flies through the door window. Windkin doesn't understand humans. Willowsnap
will stay. Aramek looks out a window. The rebels don't understand. If they could know what
he feels and remembers. He thinks back to his childhood. After the ritual of removing a
finger, he wondered why those before grew old. The Ascended Mother said they didn't
believe. He believed, but aged. In the jungle Dodia sees Ge-o'ka tied up. She says no
one's coming for him, they don't care. The sun sets and Yun returns to her pool. Did she
dream the elf that came out? Dart and Kimo jump in, splashing her. She dives in and grabs
them. Door is at the top of the temple. He learned through Winnowill's cruelty. He'll show
the humans and elves who's in power. Windstone and Silver watch the desert. Lots of humans
are coming. Bailon leads Thuggop and the humans. They must kill the spirits. Night at
Sorrow's End: Savah's in her hut. It's hopeless. She'll spare Suntop the grief.
"Remember me and the place where you were born, grew, and learned."
New Blood # 23 "One Life One Lie"
A storm is coming. Pei-Lar finds Suntop and Jethel. Dart's not here and her warriors are
ready. Kimo and Dodia say Dart will be here. Suntop's worried about what they're getting
into. He sends to Dart, who's in a boat with Ge-o'ka. The march towards the city wall
begins. He's taking Ge-o'ka to see a friend. The storm reaches the city. Aramek meets with
Door. He's given him all he can. Door says he's given nothing. A boy drops fruit. The
floor grabs him and a spike comes out of the ceiling. "It is I they worship, not a
human." In the dungeon below, Windkin uses wrapstuff to pull the lock open. He frees
Ahn-Lai. Above, guards see the outcasts arrive. Aramek calls out soldiers to destroy them
once and for all. Dart brings Ge-o'ka to the tomb. It's his friend Geoki. They met at Blue
Mountain long ago. They faced death together. Only the greatest healer could save them.
The Hoan-G'tay-Sho came here. Attained fathers have always used that name for their sons.
Windkin and Ahn-Lai are outside. Aramek turns and sees Door. Aramek will no longer speak
through him. Stone pushes Aramek over the edge. Rebels attack him, but his bodyguard saves
him. Stone spikes impale the rebels. The others retreat. Guards attack Windkin and
Ahn-Lai. He can't handle extra weight.
New Blood # 24 "Opening Door"
As morning comes, Pei-Lar's warriors retreat. Kimo sees Windkin above. He floats up just
as Ahn-Lai grabs his foot, pulling him down. Suntop and Chot watch. Windkin won't answer
sendings. Suntop informs Dart, still with Ge-o'ka. Door is in control. Yun and Pei-Lar
head through tall grass, looking for Windkin. He's unconscious with Ahn-Lai and
Willowsnap. Guards are coming. Suntop and Jethel run into Aramak. He doesn't mean them any
harm. Pei-Lar hits him with a club, killing him. She had to, for her son and her tribe.
Dart and Go-o'ka find Shenshen. She lost Suntop. There's a bad feeling in the air. He
heads off. Windkin awakes, sensing Suntop. Guards arrive, but Ahn-Lai protects Windkin.
Dodia, Kimo, and Chot attack and kill the guards. Dart finds Yun, Suntop, and Jethel.
Suntop is upset about Aramak. Door is at the temple. He tells guards to burn Aramak's body
with the other useless relics. He's now in charge. The stone hand becomes a fist. He has
the slaves heads' shaved. A guard returns without Windkin. He's forced to swallow a stone.
A spike rips out of his chest, killing him. Auroa and the others swallow stones. Aramak's
woman may have a use, after her ears are cut off. The others will go into the fire.
New Blood # 25 Prelude to Doorwar 1 "Sorrow's End"
A large group of humans are digging through the spines surrounding Sorrow's End. Two
Jack-wolfriders, Shashen and Silver, are watching. Windstone relieves them. The humans
stop for the night. The two cubs go to Savah. The humans will be through tomorrow. She
knew they'd eventually come. But Sorrow's End will live on. Ahdri has finished shaping the
tunnel. They may survive. In the Forevergreen, Ahn-Lai and Suntop are with Windkin. Suntop
heads down to the village. Windkin gets a sending. Pei-Lar wants to be rid of Door. Dart
says there's no chance, he's too powerful. They should go into the forest and get away
from him. Outside Sorrow's End: Thuggop needs magic items inside. The boy will get them.
They hear elves howl, but Bailon no longer fears them. Savah tells Newstar and Ahdri that
all things must end. Soon, daylight comes. The humans start through again. Three
Jackwolfriders watch. Shashen is sent to tell Savah and to get more warriors. The
Forevergreen: Dart's elves head through the forest. Windkin goes above the trees and hears
a sending again. Suntop senses it. Windkin saw a good place to camp. The Sun Folk prepare.
The humans get through, sooner than expected. Windstone, Shashen, and Silver need to get
back.
New Blood # 26 Prelude to Doorwar 2 "Darkness Settling"
Humans come and are met by archers. There are too many. They must buy time. Shashen is
sent to tell Savah it won't be long. Ahdri begs Savah to find another way. Shashen
arrives. Savah watched her children grow and spread out. It will all end here for her.
She'll always be here. Bailon enters a tunnel. Thuggop is digging. He's almost through. A
crack in the rock appears behind Savah and Ahdri. Ahdri is told to go with the others. She
can share everything she's been taught. Savah goes into her hut with the Palace. Thuggop
watches through a hole. Jethel and Suntop are in the water. Suntop thinks he can fix Door.
Chot tells him no, he doesn't want him hurt. Savah comes out with the Palace. Thuggop
breaks through. A human shoots Savah in the shoulder. Newstar takes her into the tunnel.
Ahdri takes the Palace and runs, leading the humans away. Thuggop wants it, Two Edge said
it had power. Elves cave in the tunnel entrance. Ahdri runs through the village. More men
pour in, looting. Ahdri runs across the Bridge of Destiny. She's shot in the back. She
makes the bridge shatter and the troll falls to its death. She collapses. Savah feels
she's gone. Her work is collapsing. Humans run into their tunnel. It closes, trapping
Bailon.
