Door's throne-room: He didn't want Windkin to leave. Warriors are tracking him. All humans
exist only to serve him. He's seen the truth. The elves travel through thick forest. They
need a place to think. Suntop is upset that no one believes he can help Door. Something's
up with Windkin. Ahn-lai is looking out for Windkin. Someone is watching them. At night
Door floats down to his chamber and covers a sleeping boy with his cape. He's a god to
them. He finds Aramak's woman in his bed chamber and sends her out. He sleeps. The elves
continue walking in the morning. Windkin and Willowsnap sense something. Windkin gets a
sending from Door. Suntop senses something. Windkin tells him to get out of his head.
Jethel finds Ge-o'ka following them. Chot is angry and tired of being led by dung-heads
like Dart. Kimo attacks him and they roll down a hill into a river. Door tells Windkin the
others are savages. Chot and Kimo go over some falls and find a perfect tree for a holt.
Cam Triompe, a dark-skinned human, another man, and a boy arrive. He's from Hearthstone,
looking for a way through to trade with the Djun. Soldiers attack the others.
New Blood # 28 "Triompe and Defeat"
Chot and Kimo are on their way up while Dart, Dodia, Windkin, and Yun battle humans.
Ge-o'ka is grabbed and Winkin hits the human with a large stick. Chot and Kimo join in.
The last human throws Kimo at Dart and runs. They all go to the tree they found and thanks
Cam's humans for their help. He tells of sailing the oceans of the world. A storm snapped
their mast so they came for trees. Shenshen suggests they eat together. Cam heads for his
ship. Windkin flies up and sends to Door. Door says the others aren't his friends or his
kin. They're beneath him. He wants him to come back and talk. Humans and elves eat at
Grandfather Tree. Chot sings and dances. They've all learned different customs. Cam and
his men are departing. Ge-o'ka wants to go with Cam. There's nothing here for him. They
all sail off. The elves go to sleep. Yun watches the water, it helps her. Dodia never
talks anymore. Dart and Kimo talk. Door will never leave them alone until there's a final
confrontation. Windkin is above in the tree. He has Willowsnap wrap Ahn-Lai. Windkin flies
above. On Cam's ship Ge-o'ka finds himself feeling older. He'll never see this land again.
He says farewell to the Forevergreen and Dart.
New Blood # 29 "In a Gilded Cage"
The Hoan-G'tay-Sho city at night: Windkin and Door stand above the people. It's natural
for them to worship, they're like newborns. Door wants the little Palace. One day they
will reunite it with its parent and leave here. All will benefit. They must show others
the way. He tells his slaves to catch and kill Willowsnap. The preserver wraps two of
them. The windows are closing up. The third cases it but is caught in the stone.
Willowsnap flies for the forest, but two of Pei-Lar's boys catch it. Chot and Shenshen are
picking herbs and roots. Chot says none smell as nice as her. They head back. Suntop is
leading Jethel somewhere. They come to a human hut on the river. They hear a howl from
inside and run away. At the holt Dart unwraps Ahn-Lai. The boy was telling Windkin not to
go to Door. The others arrive. Dodia, Chot, and Dart are going. Suntop, Jethel, and
Shenshen stay. Dart wants Kimo out of danger. He can protect the others. Windkin tells
Door they could do great good if he helps. He'll get the Palace fragment. He takes off.
Door thinks the student will surpass the teacher. Door finds the three boys. Dart and his
elves will come but they'll fail. He turns a boy to stone.
New Blood # 30 "Fight or Flight"
Kimo, Yun, Shenshen, Suntop, and Jethel were left behind. Kimo is worried. The others
reassure him. Dart left him in charge because of what he means to him. Suntop and Jethel
run off. Dart, Dodia, and Chot head through the forest at night. They're sick of humans
and of hiding. Something must be done. They're not alone. Two of Pei-Lar's warriors come
out. They have Willowsnap and ask them to follow. They do. Suntop and Jethel go to the
human hut and climb in. They find strange objects all over. Suntop senses Savah. Windkin
flies over the Worldspine Mountains. He remembers being stolen by Winnowill and
"purified." She was thwarted by the Wolfriders and Tyldak saved him, giving him
to Dewshine and Scouter. Dart's group is taken to Pei-Lar. She won't let the preserver go.
There's still hope for the city. They can give her what she needs in exchange for
Willowsnap. The Preserver said Windkin is gone and Door is alone. She knows the way in.
Dart gives in. Suntop and Jethel eat and drink the human's food. Suntop has a feeling of
danger beyond what they know. The human arrives and catches them.
New Blood # 31 "Window of the Soul"
Dart, Chot, Dodia, and Pei-Lar go through the city drains and up to the city. Dodia has a
strange feeling. Pei-Lar wants revenge, but Dart wants it done his way. A guard hears
Pei-Lar yelling at Dart. They attack and kill the guards. Door finds them. Dodia is the
source of the strange feeling he had. It's Recognition. He flies off with her. Now they
can't kill Door. Pei-Lar angrily pushes a large torch off the edge and falls with it. Door
covers the city in an egg as the fire spreads. The human grabs Suntop and Jethel and dives
into the river. He takes them to an underwater cave made by sea spirits. He's called the
Wanderer, as was his father and all the fathers before. Ahn-Lai comes in. There's enough
air for three. They are the future. The Wanderer is gone. Jethel blames Ahn-Lai. Shenshen
can't find Suntop. Kimo grabs her and gets her to the boats. The fire spreads rapidly.
Soon all is gray and black. The city is dark with people screaming. Slaves bring Dart food
found before their world ended. Door is with Dodia. It has ended and begun. They will have
a Glider son. Dodia cries.
New Blood # 32 "Sorrow's Fate"

spikes and barriers. Two humans are camped below. They see the "demon" above.
They can make it fear and obey them. It will make the stones stop growing. Their people
must be told. Windkin lands inside. There's a terrible stillness. A human skeleton is
laying under a crack in a stone wall. He also finds the remains of a troll. He flies up to
the crumbled Bridge of Destiny and sees Ahdri's fate. He loved her once, but she was
gentle with his young heart. He sits there until dusk. He lost his home and her. A human
boy watches. There's no food left. Windkin finds him and demands to know what happened.
The boy doesn't care if he kills him. Windkin flies him over to the human hut, where he
finds food. The humans will be back with others. Windkin finds them by following their
tracks. He pours their waterskin out. He flies off. They can't get back to the village now
and must go back. Windkin finds a fire at the human hut and burns it down. The boy,
walking through the desert, looks back thinking, "If only I could fly."
New Blood # 33 "Blood's End" Part One
The Hoan G'tay-Sho city: Door speaks to the people. Their lives are in his hands. A new
life begins. His mate is with child. Dart and Chot watch. Chot wants to kill him but Dart
wonders how they'd get out. Outside, all is black and quiet. Nothing is left at their
tree. Yun, Shenshen, and Kimo wonder where Dart is. Suntop won't answer sendings. Are they
the only ones left alive? Suntop, Jethel, and Ahn-Lai are on the river, lost. They wonder
if Door's city is still there. Suntop's sendings are weak from the smoke. They keep going.
Door walks with Dodia. She will have his son, since Windkin left. He could sire a whole
tribe of Gliders. Chot runs for Door with a dagger but Dart pulls him back. Kimo,
Shenshen, and Yun see the dome in the distance. They head down to it. Kimo sends and Dart
answers. He and the others are fine. Kimo pounds on it, wondering when it will end. He
hates it here. Suntop and the others hit a rock and go over a waterfall. When Suntop
finally comes up, Jethel and Ahn-Lai are gone. He's all alone.
New Blood # 34 "Blood's End" Part Two
Suntop walks. All is silent. Jethel and Ahn-Lai won't answer his calls. The air is too
thick. It starts pouring, as if trying to wash it all away. Willowsnap crawls out of a
tree. Shenshen, Kimo, and Yun take cover at the base of the great dome. Inside, Dodia
tells Door his followers need his guidance. He says if they turn against each other he'll
rule over the survivors. Dart says there's no order to that. Door says he doesn't know his
intentions but Dart will be the first to know. To the north Ahn-Lai has Jethel tied up.
They're heading for a village. The villagers were impressed that Aramak had a spirit.
Ahn-Lai will give them one. Shenshen sends to Suntop and he finally answers. He runs down
and hugs her. The storm is over. Ahn-Lai finally reaches a forest. Jethel is exhausted.
Humans see them. It is as the vision foretold. A wild boy will bring a spirit from the
fire. Door is standing on the dome. It's a new beginning for him to create and control.
Dart and Chot find him. He's disappointed in them. Dodia will bear a son and then he'll
get rid of her. He'll also rid himself of their nuisance.
New Blood # 35 "Blood's End" Part Three
It no longer amuses Door to keep them alive. Dart sees he was wrong about him. A hole
opens beneath them and they fall. Suntop, Shenshen, Kimo, and Yun are at the base of the
dome. Suntop senses what is going on inside. Dart and Chot get up. Door doesn't need to
see, he knows the rock. They run. Door plans to kill them. Dart is punched. Chot finds
him. Dodia hears it and runs. Chot pins Door down. The Glider flies up and drops Chot. He
believes he's superior to Wolfriders. Dart says he's not a god to humans. He's feared, not
loved. He could've guided them. Suntop sends to Door. When Door first called he asked for
Suntop's help. He asks Door to remember the beauty of the Forevergreen. Dodia hits him
over the head with something and he falls. The dome comes down and the people run. Dart
and the others come out. Chot notices one is missing. He won't rest until he finds Jethel.
In a town far north they hail Ahn-Lai, the prophesied leader. A scroll was handed down. On
the day of fire and death he would bring a spirit with eyes of fire. They'll build a port,
fast ships to trade, and will make contact with the Djun. Jethel is imprisoned. Three boys
come to tease him. With Willowsnap's help he escapes. They run into the forest and a new
legend begins.
