Long ago elves wore different forms. It took nine to make the circle. Kalil was motion,
propelling them through space. Kaslen was the ship, to protect them. Adya was the eyes,
telling them where to go. Sefra was the time keeper, telling them when to go. Aerth was
their ears, telling them why to go. Deir was balance, giving order. Haken was passion,
driving them forward. Gibra was caution, holding them back. They molded their place to
serve each purpose. They weren't prepared for the humans' violence. They forgot they could
die. They once took mates but stopped when they ceased to age. But there's a bond between
Timmain and Adya. They were the first to bring news of their lost brothers. In the past
they ruled their planet too harshly. Some left for overpopulation. Now their sun is dying.
They brought the last of the surviving species with them to find those who went before.
Their kind settled on many worlds. The burrowers came to resent them and ran from them.
Adya offered the humans peace and was struck down. As the humans attack, their magic
fails. They run into the woods. Timmain goes off on her own. Haken is angry and cruel.
They need to kill to live. Timmain transforms and hunts as a hawk. Water, seedlings,
breeding, and death are celebrated here. It's a great cycle. Haken sneaks into the Palace.
Guin, Ima, and Tislin are gone. They're supposed to live forever. He bleaches their bones.
He'll fight them with their own rules. Timmain brings the others meat. Soon they see Haken
come out in bone armor, attacking humans. Wolves attack him.
Hidden Years # 7 "How Shall I Keep From Singing? Part 2"
Timmain sees Haken driving humans away. She becomes a wolf and attacks with the rest of
her pack. Haken says the humans will destroy them. Humans must fear them. Timmain attacks
as a half-wolf and the humans run. The wolves fight Haken and the other High Ones run.
Timmain watches as Haken enters the Palace, dripping blood. The wolves leave, forgetting.
Timmain takes the elves to a cave and agrees to be their leader. She sings with them, as
wolves do. They draw upon all their strength. Timmain sleeps. Three days later she wakes
up. At the Palace Haken feels she betrayed him. She won't get away with setting herself up
as leader. He lets humans in and hits them with a painful sending. They bow down. He tells
them to kill wolves. Sefra and Aerth steal food from humans. Timmain hunts, always in wolf
form. She finds an animal trap of Haken's doing. Aerth misses Timmain. Kaslen shapes the
branches of a tree and falls, breaking her leg. Aerth could only heal her in the Palace.
They head their with Timmain and her wolves. Haken's black sending hits them. They enter.
Haken says love is their weakness. Timmain bites his arm off. He must leave or die. The
bond she made with this world keeps them alive. They learn to survive and then thrive.
Gibra makes a son Vol for Timmain's firstborn. Gibra decides to go find Haken. Timmain
always hunts. Aerth needs her. He finds her in a den. She seems to be all wolf. He'll
leave her alone. Eventually Timmain brings her son, the half wolf Timmorn, the first
Wolfrider.
