Location: Tyndall is located south of Roscoe Village along SR 16. The village itself sits slightly to the west of SR 16 and north of Coopers Run. It is accessible by turning onto Township Road 347.
History: I have not found any significant history for Tyndall. The canal passed through the area in the same location as SR 16 and is sometimes visible on either side of the road. After leaving Roscoe, the canal turned southward following its third different river, the Muskingum. Actually, the Muskingum River is formed by the Tuscarawas and Walhonding Rivers coming together just west of Roscoe.
Location: Conesville is located south of Tyndall and east of SR 16. It is accessible from SR 16 by turning south on TR 480.
History: A distillery was built along the canal in 1847 and soon a small settlement grew up around it. The owner of the distillery was Beebe Cone and when he was named the postmaster, the new village was named after him. The small village was bisected by the canal and only one road connected the two parts of the town by means of a bridge over the canal. Even to this day, Marquand Street is the only connection between the two sections of the town. A railroad track now sits in the old canal bed. Conesville is the last significant village along the canal route in Coshocton County.
Lock 28 South (Portage Summit Level) - Adam's Mills Lock
The downstream end of the north wall of Lock 28 looking north
About the Lock: The last canal structure in Coshocton County is Lock 28, the first of three locks to be named Adam's Mills Lock. It is the most difficult of the three to find and is in the worst condition. Only the ends of the north wall of the lock remain and are in poor condition. The remains make the lock look more like a guard lock than a lift lock. Some of the lock stones supposedly were removed to Roscoe Village to be used at the loading dock for the Monticello III canal boat. The remains of the lock can be found just into the woods on the north side of SR 16 before crossing the Muskingum County Line. The spillway was located on the north side of the lock and the towpath ran along the opposite bank.
