Chemometrics - Illustrative example

Forensic analysis of whiskey

Problem:

Substitution of low priced whiskeys for premium.

Must prove that brand vended is not brand requested.

Typical that when a premium brand is chosen, a less expensive brand is used as a counterfeit.
Additional goals:

A single whiskey sample must be used for the determination.

A simple, unmodified gas chromatograph, common in crime labs, must be used.

The analysis should be fast, simple and accurate.
