We inherited the family farm in 2003 and moved here in September of 2004. The farm consists of 36 acres, a home and several outbuildings. The original 4-room house was built in 1853, with an addition constructed in 1967, which included an indoor bathroom. My inlaws purchased the property in 1953. Bird watching began in earnest when we noticed several bright yellow birds hanging upsidedown on our many sunflowers. After discovering they were American Goldfinches, we purchased a finch feeder and hung it in the backyard so it could be viewed from the north facing kitchen window. It was all downhill from there: More feeders, birdbaths and researching native plants to attract even more birds. And, of course, the digital camera. We`ve included some information about each bird, but if you`d like more, we suggest you get a copy of Birds of Ohio Field Guide by Stan Tekiela. It can be ordered from www.amazon.com We hope this site inspires you to grab your binoculars and camera and head on out to your own backyard. You`ll be amazed not only with our feathered friends, but with all of the wildlife that surrounds you.
