Mrs. Alzbeta (Kolar) Kuska
Alzbeta, daughter of Josef Kolar and Anna Prokop Kolar was born at Malkov u Lnar, kraj Pisek, Bohemia March 8, 1860. She passed away at the family farm near Milligan, Nebraska, June 24, 1938 after a brief illness, at the age of 78 years, 3 months, and 16 days. She was the fifth of nine children, having four brothers and four sisters. Two brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.
She emigrated to America as a girl barely beyond her teens with a younger brother, Fabian, two years after their brother Joe had come to this country. Landing after a voyage on a freighter that lasted nearly three weeks, they came to Exeter, Nebraska where they arrived in June, l881. For a time after coming to Fillmore county she made her home with an uncle, Karel Kolar.
September 17, 1881. she was united in marriage to Anton Kuska, who had come over from the same village in Bohemia at about the same time, but aboard a different boat. Together they faced life's tasks for nearly fifty-seven years.
After their marriage the young couple started farming on the Joseph Kotas farm two miles northwest of Milligan, Nebraska. The same year they bought the eighty to which they moved the following year and where they made their home since. A number of young trees were growing on the new farm. On occasion the young bride walked five miles to care for the trees and nurse them along while her husband was busy with the work of the farm.
To their union were born eight children, one daughter and seven sons, among them being two sets of twins. Two of the sons, James, a twin brother of Joe, and George. the youngest, died in infancy.
The deceased is survived by her husband; the daughter, Mrs. Mary Poch of Glengary township; five sons - Emil Anton of near Exter; Valentine of Omaha; Joseph Benjamin of Colby, Kansas; Henry of Chicago; and Clement - who has been caring for his parents the past year; one sister, Barbara, of Pracovice Czechoslovakia; two brothers - Joseph of Ravenna and Fabian of Wolbach; thirteen grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends. One grandson. William Earl Kuska preceded her in dearth in April of this year. His grandmother passed away on what would have been his twentieth birthday had he lived.
Services were held at the home at 1:30 p. m Sunday and the interment was in the south cemetery. Charles Smrha of Lincoln delivered the eulogy and Mrs. Robert Dvorak, Mrs. James A. Hamouz and Mrs. Herman Michl rendered the song service.
All of the children and their spouses and the grandchildren attended the funeral. Others from cut of town who were here for the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Kolar of Ravenna; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Abraham of Ravenna; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Kolar; Charles and William Kolar of Wolbach; Mr. and Mrs. Emil Podlesak of Hastings; Mr. and Mrs. V, H. Homolka and family of Wilber; and Joseph Rehor Sr. of Wilber.
