OP means open pollinated (i.e. the pollen could of been its own or brought by bees)

Calocarpa X R. nutkana

Mixed pollen + Carefree Sunshine

1

Calocarpa X R. Nutkana is expected to be tetraploid.  It should give additional  disease resistance and winter hardiness to whatever it is crossed to.  The question is whether the cross will have recurrent flowering and, if not, whether that trait can be restored in the next generation.  Since this was my first year using Calocarpa X R. nutkana as a mother, I used mixed tetraploid pollen to increase the chances that a hip would form.

Carefree Beauty X Heritage is a very nice combination of traits from its parents. My choices of pollen parents were based on adding more winter hardiness to it and/or to add its nice characteristics to other breeding lines.

I feel (hope) Carefree Sunshine is a "breakthrough" yellow rose. I am very enthused about adding its traits to other hardy/disease resistant breeding lines.

Dortmund X Illusion

Rugelda X R15

1

This is one of the few cases that I have found a parent that can "dominate" Dortmund blood.  (Illusion often dominates its crosses.)  Dortman X Illusion is a repeat blooming red double rose.

I had another Folksinger X Illusion seedling that had even a "better" flower (more colors, including yellow), but it died.  This plant is one of my best so far except that it suffers considerable die back each winter..

RSM K-1 is a cross of R. rugosa Alba X  (J.W. Fargo X (Donald Prior X R. arkansana) X mixed R arkansana hybrids). See Marshall, H.H., "RSM K1 and RSM K5 Rose Germplasm",   HortScience, volumn 15, pages 205-206 (1980). Marshall did a chromosome determination and confirmed that RSM K1 was a tetraploid.

As can be seen by the link the mother may be commercial material as it does repeat.  Now, I have to wait to see what the final mature plant form is.

Rugelda

From the link, you will see that Rugelda has some rugosa "blood".

Rugelda X R15

1

I have used Rugelda X R15 mainly as a pollen parent  I do have one nice open pollinated seedling.  Perhaps the "self" pollen in this cross will keep the hip receptive until some Illusion pollen "sets".

This is a very impressive red climber.  Unfortunately, the record of the parents was lost.  Early on I only used plant markers to keep track of the parents of a cross.  This proved to be insufficient as many markers were uprooted.  Whether that was due to the ground freezing and forcing the markers out of the ground or  deer and other animals uprooting them, I do not know. I now keep an up to date map in addition to an outside marker system that does not depend on stakes in the ground.
