These are two pictures of an open pollinated Illusion seedling.  It is hard to see, but there are two more buds forming.  The picture was taken on March 9, 2000.

Note, that I have placed a 12 ounce plastic drink cup (with the bottom cut out) around the 3 inch round, "deep" peat pot.  Several years ago I used 4 inch round peat pots.  Then I switched to 3 inch square peat pots to get more seedlings per Rubbermaid container.  Unfortunately, the roots very quickly came out the bottom.  Last year I switched to the new 3 inch round "deep" peat pots (not every dealer sells them).  I had considerable problems with them as they often fell apart.  This is the reason for the plastic "jacket".  I will remove the jacket when planting and then re- use the jackets next season.

The plant label was cut from plastic "roll up window blinds" which I find at garage sales, Goodwill stores, or Salvation Army stores.  I use an automatic lead pencil to write the rose name or number on both sides of the label.  When I plant outside, this label is replaced by a venetian blind label.
