I make a map of my beds in a bound notebook. For each position where I will plant a seedling, I place a self stick mailing label. When a seedling is planted in that position, the mother and father and year of planting is recorded on the label. When a flower first appears, the relative size, color, and whether single or double is recorded. Each date that a new flush of flowers appears is also recorded. Other information such as size of plant, disease presence is also recorded. If the rose appears to be worth keeping, it is assigned a number - such as #375. This # is put on the label and added to a master list located in the back of the
notebook.
The numbers are also entered into a spreadsheet, see the following link:
seedling numbers
If a seedling dies or is moved to another bed, it is a simple task to place a new mailing label over the old position.
