"Resting, Rusting or Working?
Some magazine displayed a clever sign which had
been
suspended over an automobile junk yard, which read,
"Rust in Peace". Within this yard no doubt were many
cars whose names had formerly been synonyms of power
and speed, but here they lie resting and rusting.
They traveled the highways with blazing speed, once
was the time when they climbed with ease the highest
hills, but now they are symbols of rust and ruin.
An energetic old gentleman, whom I once knew and loved,
was always in a hurry. He would rush from one job to
another as though he never had a moment to lose, and
when his friends would urge him to slow up he would
always reply, "I had rather wear out than rust out."
Are we staying busy in the Lord's service, or just
resting on the reputation of what we once did?
"I used to be a leader in the church work, and never
missed a service," says one. Well, what are you doing
now? Are you an active, working member of the congregation,
or have you decided just to quit and "Rust in
Peace"?"
Of course, this goes as well for the younger as for
the older. God wants workers, not resters! [JW]
****** this weeks memory verse ******
"For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders,
adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness,
blasphemies: These are the things which defile a man:
but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man."
(Matthew 15:19,20)
