No Difference In Sin
Men often have the concept of "Big" sins and
"Little"
sins. No such concept is found in the Bible. One can
be just as separated from God's love by Lying as one
can by committing murder. God does not have degrees
of separation, only man does.
Jesus illustrated this idea when talking in Jerusalem,
as Luke records in Luke 13. Some spoke of what happened
to those of Galilee whose blood Pilate had mingled with
their sacrifices. "Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were
sinners above all the Galilaeans because they suffered
such things? I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent,
ye shall all likewise perish. Or those eighteen, upon
whom the tower of Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye
that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in
Jerusalem? I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye
shall all likewise perish." (Luke 13:2-5)
Those in Jerusalem were no better off than those of
Galilaea or those upon whom the tower fell: they were
all in need of repentance. The sins of those that Jesus
spoke too were no less an offense to God than that of
any other people.
People may want to think that some sins are worse than
others, but Jesus said it is not so. If man does not
repent of his sins, he will have a terrible outcome.
It may be that no tower falls on us, but certainly the
Judgement of God will fall against us. [JW]
