What Kind Of Preaching Do You Have?

Often when people inquire about our services, they
want to know something about the Preaching. They may
ask "What kind of preaching do you have"? We tell them
simply that it is "Bible Preaching". To some, that does
not mean much, but if we are doing as God wants us to
do, than it will mean a lot.

What exactly is Bible Preaching?

1. It is Preaching That Is Not Vain or Empty.
Too many religious groups fill their teaching with
cute sayings, jokes and tales. This does nothing to
edify or teach people about salvation. Paul used his
time wisely while in Ephesus and declared "For I have
not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God."
(Acts 20:27) The time we have is precious, and we need
to use it to build each other up in the faith.

2. It is Preaching that Exalts Jesus Christ. "Then
Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached
Christ unto them .... Then Philip opened his mouth,
and began at the same scripture, and preached unto
him Jesus." (Acts 8:5,35) We are not concerned with
the state of our economy or world events. That can
be discussed in our private time. When given the
opportunity, we need to preach Jesus Christ and Him
crucified (1 Corinthians 2:1). That is the only
message that can save men's souls.

3. It is Preaching that Praises God for His Love.
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only
begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should
not perish, but have everlasting life." (John 3:16)
God's love is displayed by His act of Sacrifice by
giving His Son, Jesus Christ to die on the cross for
our sins. Praising Him demands we recognize His
sacrifice and what it means to our salvation.

4. It is Preaching that Teaches about Life after Death.
The Bible speaks of both Heaven and Hell. Both a place
of Reward and a place of Punishment. We do mankind no
service if we teach of the one and not the other. If
we teach people only about Heaven, we are only teaching
half the message. If we warn only about Hell, the same
holds true. We must teach and preach about Heaven and
Hell: how to gain the one and avoid the other.

It is preaching that teaches how one can be saved, how
one is a member of the body of Christ, how one is to
obey God, how one can have fellowship with other believers,
how one is to avoid sin and how one is to be an example.

In short, Bible preaching is just what it should be:
teaching and preaching what God says in His word, to
a lost and dying world. Nothing more, and certainly
nothing less. When someone asks what kind of preaching
do we have here? We need to just say: "The kind that
God says needs to be done."     [JW]
