The Friends of God
God has often given special titles to those who have
served him with faithfulness. God said that He knew
Moses "face to face" (Deuteronomy 34:10). Moses was
a man who spoke directly with God as one speaks with
a good friend.
Of David, it was said by God that he was a "man after
mine own heart." (Acts 13:22) Of Antipas, a man slain
from among the saints at Pergamos, Jesus declared him
to be "my faithful martyr..." (Revelation 2:13).
Possibly one of the greatest recognitions of God was
given unto Abraham, who was called ,"the Friend of God"
(James 2:23)
However, we have such names given unto us. When we are
faithful to God and obedient to His Son, Jesus Christ,
we are as close to God as Moses, as dear to God as David,
as precious to Jesus as Antipas, and even declared by
Jesus to be His friends: "These things have I spoken unto
you, that my joy might remain with you, and that your joy
might be full. This is my commandment, That ye love one
another, as I have loved you. Greater love hath no man than
this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Ye are
my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. Henceforth
I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what
his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all
things that I have heard of my Father I have made known
unto you." (John 15:11-15)
What a wonderful relationship our Father has given unto
us, through the death and Resurrection of His dear Son
and our Saviour, Jesus Christ! [JW]
