Our God Is Greatly Exalted
How great is God? It is difficult to find the superlatives to
describe God's
greatness and eternal nature. The inspired Psalmist possibly
comes closest to
describing God and His great character. In Psalm 47, God is
described as a
Mighty King who defeats His enemies and brings triumph to His
people. No
nation is able to stand against Him, let alone to defeat those He
loves.
O Clap your hands, all ye people; Shout unto God with the voice
of triumph.
For the Lord Most High is terrible; He is a Great King over all
the earth.
He shall subdue the people under us, and the nations under our
feet. He shall
choose our inheritance for us, the Excellency of Jacob whom He
loved.
God is gone up with a shout, The Lord with the sound of a
trumpet. Sing
praises to God, sing praises: sing praises unto our King, sing
praises. For
our God is the King of all the earth: sing ye praises with
understanding.
God reigneth over the heathen: God sitteth upon the throne of His
Holiness.
The princes of the people are gathered together, even the people
of the God
of Abraham: for the shields of the earth belong unto God: He is
Greatly
Exalted.
There should never be a question on our part as to the Greatness
of God or
His love. There should never be a question as to His power: to
defeat His
enemies and to Redeem His people. God, who is the Almighty
Creator, has no
one to fear. It is we who should fear Him. The earth itself will
tremble with
His power, and will shout praises unto His Victory. For truly, He
is Greatly
Exalted, and all those who oppose Him shall come to ruin. [JW]
