On Being Thankful
At this time of year many folks begin to think of all the things
that are
good in their life. We celebrate a national holiday that
commemorates the
lives of the original settlers. We call it Thanksgiving. It is
designed
to help us think about their sacrifice, and how blessed they felt
to be
able to make it through that first year in the new world. Today,
we still
have much to be thankful for, especially in the Spiritual realm.
Let's
consider just a few items:
1. Bible Class Teachers. Those who give of their time and effort
so that
we may have a better understanding of God's word.
2. Faithful Parents. Through the storms and trials life brings
our way,
they stand fast as faithful beacons to lead us to
God.
3. Faithful Children. All parents have at their heart the best
interest of
their children. How blessed we are when they head
our training, in love.
4. A Building. Having spent a short amount of time in foreign
places, we
are so blessed to have a nice place to come together
and worship God.
5. Kind Brethren. Young and old, who go out of their way to do
some simple
things to make the lives of their brethren happier.
6. Support. Though often not stated, I am so truly thankful for
the
generous support provided to me and my family as we
labor with you.
7. Ability. As a congregation we are blessed with many capable
teachers and
men to lead in the services. It wouldn't hurt to let
them know, either.
8. Humility. There are many who take responsibility to make sure
things get
done right and on time, though often they are not
praised. How fortunate
we are that they are willing to continue working and
not be depressed.
9. Young Saints. They struggle through the world just like the
rest of us,
and continue as shining lights. Soon, they will be
parents and teachers.
10. Making Difficult Decisions. In this day and age, just being a
faithful
New Testament Christian is difficult. How
thankful we are that there
are so many who continue, week in and week
out, not to allow the
temptations of the world to wrest us away from
Christ.
"We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren
...." (2 Thes. 1:3)
