How Can I Help The Church?
Often people have an idea that in order to do something that is
important,
they must do something that is big. In order to help the church
to grow,
they must be in some foreign field preaching or maybe standing on
a corner
in our own community. I would not want to dissuade someone
against such an
ideas for we do need people to preach and teach: both abroad and
at home.
However, it is not always the "great" things that we do
that help to build
up, but the small and constant that go a long way in maintaining
growth.
What are some things that YOU can do to help the local
congregation to
grow and mature?
1. Study God's Word. (2 Tim. 2:15) There is no better way for you
to grow
and to help others to grow, than to be a faithful
and ready servant.
2. Pray Always. (1 Thes. 5:17) Remember the old saying,
"Light a candle to
dispel the darkness"? Well, how about offering
a prayer on behalf of
the church to help it grow?
3. Be An Encouragement. (1 Tim. 1:16) Sometimes it is just a
small, kind
word or smile that helps others to know you care. Do
your best, and let
God help you make up any lack.
4. Look For Opportunities To Teach. (2 Cor. 2:12) It might be
that you
are not capable of teaching a bible class. Then when
you find someone
who is interested, look to those who can. We are
ready.
5. Teach Your Family. (Ephes. 6:4) It may be that you never
convert someone
from your work or social associations. But how
wonderful it will be if
you are able to convert those of your own flesh!
6. Attend. Not only services (Hebrews 10:25) but also Bible
classes. For
the men, you are needed when we have business
meetings. Your presence
is an encouragement to others. Sometimes just seeing
so many kind and
faithful faces helps us make it through another week
and defeat the
tempter.
7. Don't Worry. (Phil. 4:6) We waste too much of our time
worrying about
what could have been or what will be. We have no
power to change the
past and we don't know what the future will hold. If
we will walk by
Faith and believe in God's goodness and mercy, then
all things will work
out to His glory and our blessing.
So, there is much that you can do! Let's get started.
