Making Sure That No One Is Offended.

A recent comic strip, Funky Winkerbean, shows how far some will go in the
area of "political correctness". Many in our society have a desire to make
sure that no one is ever offended. They seek far and wide to render every and
any activity as "neutral": of no gain to one party or another.

Funky is the principal of his old high school. He's happy to tell the coach of
the football team that the school has received some new equipment for the
gymnasium as well as a new gymnasium itself. The coach is not very happy.
When Funky questions him why, he finds out that all this new equipment and
building have a catch: there are some changes to be made. The coach informs
him that his new title is "Youth Physical Activity Co-ordinator". The
gymnasium will now be called the "Personal Wellness Activity Center". When
Funky asks why, he is told that the term "coach" suggested winners and
losers, and that "gymnasium" suggested competition. Lest anyone be offended,
the coach receives a new title and the gymnasium a new name!

Christians are not to be the type of folks who are worried about the idea
of "political correctness". God can make all things work out (Romans 8:28).
There are going to be winners and losers. Sometimes we may lose even when we
should win. There will even be times when we are kept from winning just so
there will be no losers. Peter warns us that sometimes we may have to face
unfair persecution. If we have done wrong, then the persecution may well be
deserved. Yet he also said we may be persecuted, though not in the wrong.
When that happens, we then are following in the footsteps of our Saviour and
we please God. (1 Peter 2:19-21) Jesus did not complain that he was treated
unfairly, he just did what needed to be done, placing his life in the hands
of our loving Father. May we all learn to live a life as pleasing to the
Father, as did Jesus. [JW]

"And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence
of his disciples, which are not written in this book:
But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus
is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye
might have life through his name." (John 20:30,31)
