NDCL
Mission Statement
Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin is a Catholic,
co-educational college preparatory school.
Sponsored by the Sisters of Notre Dame who founded Notre Dame Academy and heir to the Marianist spirit of Cathedral Latin School, NDCL is grounded in the shared values of two strong educational traditions: faith formation, academic excellence, school as community, and commitment to service.
Like Mary who gave Christ to the world, NDCL prepares leaders who transform the world by doing the truth in love.

Join us for opening liturgy on Tuesday
Parents and other family members are most welcome to join the NDCL community in prayer when we gather for our opening school liturgy on Tuesday, August 26, at 9:15 AM. Father Timothy Kalista of Saint Mary Church in Chardon will preside at the liturgy, which will include the commissioning of peer ministers for the 2008-2009 school year.
Plan to attend Celebration 2008:
A Night Under the Lights!
The Lions will play their first home football game under the new lights in Lion Stadium on Friday, August 29. To mark this long-awaited moment in NDCL history, we invite everyone in our school community to a Family Cook-Out before the game from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM. Enjoy free hot dogs, chips, and soft drinks as together we light the way to NDCL's bright future.

Alumni participants in the symposium on excellence included Casey O'Brien '93, attorney with Petersen and Ibold; Ellen Foley Kessler '70, Lake Metro Parks commissioner; and Molly Randel Smith '95, regional representative for the American Cancer Society. |
NDCL's faculty began the new school year by participating in a symposium on the school's core value of excellence. Teachers, counselors, and administrators explored the meaning and importance of excellence in a series of panel discussions with more than 30 invited guests, including parents, local elementary school principals, alumni, and Sisters of Notre Dame.
A highlight of the program was a discussion between the entire faculty and a panel of seven current NDCL students. Teachers and students engaged each other on such topics as motivation to achieve, the balance between challenging work and supportive assistance, and the relationship between letter grades and meaningful learning.
In the end, the faculty came together to identify a series of common themes and questions regarding our pursuit of excellence that will help shape ongoing professional development activities in the year ahead.
Cheerleaders win big at Cheer Camp
NDCL's cheerleaders returned from this summer's Cheer Camp with multiple blue ribbons and trophies for their superior performance, including the camp's Most Spirited Squad Award. Art teacher displays work
at Earth Show Invitational
This summer Ursuline College's Earth Show Invitational featured several artworks by NDCL art teacher Miss Susan Ancheta. To view a photo gallery of Ancheta's art, which includes handbuilt and wheelthrown creations, click here. Ancheta, who has taught art at NDCL since 2003, also advises the Art Club and serves as a senior class moderator.
Bookselling buddies
Seniors Kellie Raddell, Ben Lozar, Ryan O'Donnell, Joe Reinhard, and Nick Razzante share some laughs after picking up their books and other class materials during Bookselling Day on Tuesday. Thanks to the hard work of Sister Mary Antonee Pfenning and Mrs. Judee Geizer of the Finance Office and a dedicated crew of faculty and student helpers, nearly all students picked up their materials in just three hours.
School pictures to be taken Wednesday
Ripcho Studios will visit NDCL on Wednesday, August 27, to take photos for the 2009 yearbook and school IDs. Order forms have already been distributed in homeroom for those families who wish to purchase portrait packages. Wednesday will be a regular uniform day for all students.

In partnership with Belaire, Inc., NDCL has launched an on-line apparel store. The new store, operated in partnership with Belaire, Inc., gives students, parents, alumni, and friends a convenient way to browse, personalize, and order high quality spirit wear.
In addition to improving access to NDCL apparel, the on-line store enables the school to introduce new items on a regular basis without incurring inventory costs.
