ENTRY #465 John Hart unspecified USA 25 April 2003 20:55:071970 to 1977 were some of the best years of my government career aboard the the Lightship Chesapeake. I served as the Communications Officer, then the Deck Officer and later in 1976-77, I was the ship's Captain. The ship at that time was under the ownership of the National Park Service. I was part of team that restored her to operational condition and made several trips up and down the Potomac River as part of environmental education program. She is a fine old ship and built to take almost any kind of weather. I feel that it was a great honor to be able to spend 7 years aboard, several of which I lived on board, in the portside aft cabin in the Officers Wardroom.
