St. Simons

Tybee Island Light is believed to have been constructed in 1791. 3 previous daymark & light towers were built in the area from 1736-1773. The station was severely damaged by Confederate troops in 1861, and repaired in 1867.
The tower has survived damage from numerous hurricanes through the years, and an earthquake in 1866. The beacon was electrified in 1933 and the Tybee Island Historical Society have been restoring the station since 1990.
