Old Michigan City Light was built in 1858 to replace the original 1837 stone light. The light served as the main beacon for the harbor until 1904, when the E. Pier Light was built.
The old light then served as the keeper's quarters until 1940, and was abandoned by the Coast Guard in 1960. The Michigan City Historical Society now utilizes the building as a museum.
