Burnt Island Lighthouse was built in 1827 from fieldstone and brick. The original keeper's quarters was torn down in 1857, and replaced with a new one that included a covered walkway to the light.
A 4th order Fresnel lens was added in 1857. It was replaced in 1989 with a modern lens. A boat house was built 1880 and an oil house in 1899. The light is still an active aid to navigation.
