The Doubling Point Range Lights were constructed in 1898. Prior to the date, range lights along the Kennebec River were privately owned by shipping companies. A sharp double bend in the river occurs at nearby Fiddlers Reach. The lights were placed at the end of Doubling Point on Arrowsic Island to help with navigation along this dangerous bend. The wood framed structures are located 235 yards apart with connecting walkway.

The rear range light is 13 ft tall, and sets back in the woods. Also built in 1898 were the Victorian styled keeper's quarters and a fuel shed. An oil house and boathouse were added a few years later. Both range lights originally featured 5th Order Fresnel lenses. The optics were automated in 1979, and the Fresnel lenses removed and replaced with modern plastic lenses. The pair of lights are the only active range lights in Maine today.
