Owl's Head Light was built in 1826. The light has never been rebuilt, even though the mortar was substandard, and subject to disintigration. Small buldges from numorous patchwork of the mortar is obvious.
The original 4th order Fresnel lens is still in operation, but now automated. The keeper's dwelling from 1854 is now a Coast Guard Station, but the original boathouse and bell tower have been dismantled.
