Owl's Head Light was built in 1826. The light has never been rebuilt, even though the original mortar was substandard, and subject to disintigration. Small buldges from patchwork of the mortar is obvious.
The 4th order Fresnel lens is still operational, but now automated. The keeper's dwelling from 1854 is now a Coast Guard Station, but the original boathouse & bell tower have since been dismantled.
