Portland Head Lighthouse is located in Cape Elizabeth, within Fort Williams Park. The station is one of the most visited and photographed lighthouses in the US. A majority of lighthouse posters, calendars, and paraphernalia includes Portland Head on a consistent basis. The light is a regular stop for many tour buses, and it is difficult to roam the grounds without a host of other tourists doing the same. Even the crow in this photo seems to be attracted to the light!

The tower is not open to the public for climbing, but the attached keepers quarters houses a museum which chronicles the history of the light & Fort Williams Park, along with other aids to navigation. A small gift shop is located adjacent to the museum within one of the out buildings. Small fences lining the edge of the property restrict access down the cliff to the water's edge. Ram Island Ledge Light is located 1/4 mile off shore, within visitor's views.
