The Craighill Channel Lower Range rear Light is one of four lights marking the Channel entrance. The northern most of the four lights, the Rear Range Light is the tallest at 105 ft. high. It was built in 1873 at Sparrow's Point off of the tip of Ramona Beach. The iron skeleton surrounds the wood shaft and stairs, covered in corrugated iron, & resting on a granite foundation.
The tower originally had a keeper's house within the bottom 1/2 of the skeleton structure (the white painted area). The house was torn down in the 1930's, But the beacon is still active with a 60,000 candlepower red light. The family residence closest to the light were extremely courteous in letting us tresspass across their property and private dock for some closer photos.
