Hooper Strait Light was built in 1879 to guard the straits south of St. Michaels with it's 5th order Fresnel lens. It is 1 of only 4 screwpile lights from the Bay still in existance.
The light was decommissioned in 1954 & slated for demolition in 1966. The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum purchased it, moved it inland, & fully restored it into a museum.
