Big Bay Point Lighthouse is one of two lights in Michigan that are presently Bed & Breakfast Inns. Perched high above the Lake Superior shore, the property boasts a beautiful view of the surrounding wilderness. The light was built in 1896, including the large red brick keeper's quarters and attached brick tower.
The 65 foot tall lighthouse was automated in 1945, and then sold in 1961. A small Coast Guard beacon in the yard nearby presently functions as the active aid to navigation. The fog whistle building also still exists, and now houses the light's original Fresnel lens. The Bed & Breakfast phone number is (906) 345-9957.
