The original Copper Harbor Front and Rear Range Lights were constructed in 1865. The lighthouse keeper used a building at Fort Wilkins as his keeper's quarters. In 1869, a new rear range light was built. The light consisted of a new keeper's quarters with the beacon attached in a roof dormer.

In 1927, a smaller steel tower replaced the original front range light. The function of the rear range light was later replaced in 1964 by a small skeletal tower located in the rear yard. The lighthouse is now being used as the residence for the assistant manager of Fort Wilkins State Park.
