The original Jacobsville Lighthouse was built in 1856 to guard the entrance to the Portage River. The station was rebuilt in 1870 with the present day lighthouse.
The 65 foot tall round brick tower is attached to the 1 1/2 story brick keeper's quarters. The structure now serves as a well maintained private residence.
