Little Sable Point Lighthouse was built in 1873 in an isolated area of the Lake Michigan shoreline. It was determined by the Lighthouse Board in 1870 that too long of a stretch of coastline was unlighted, and the area needed a beacon. The conical red brick tower is 107 feet tall, and is one of the most beautiful towers in the state. It is also one of the oldest existing brick towers on the Great Lakes.

An automated electric light was added in 1954 when power lines finally reached the remote location. The keeper's dwelling was also demolished at that time, and the keeper transferred to Big Sable Point Light. The beacon features a 3rd Order Fresnel Lens with electric motor, but the original clockwork mechanism still remains. The light is located within Silver Lake State Park, and is a protected structure.
