The Presque Isle Old Front Range Light was originally constructed in 1870, along with the Old Rear Range Light (located 800 feet inland to the north). The two range lights were built to help guide mariners into the Presque Isle Harbor's channel. Presque Isle's first lighthouse was the Old Presque Isle Light and keeper's quarters, which were built in 1840 along the northwest edge of the Harbor. The keeper's quarters home is presently a nice museum (and is haunted!).

The Front Range Light is a 15 ft high, octagon shaped wood structure. The Rear Range Light's beacon was 36 ft above lake level. The lights were later replaced by modern structures, and discontinued. The Rear Range Light was converted into a private residence and the Front Range Light moved to the entrance driveway of the Old Presque Isle Light Museum. The 1870 New Presque Isle Light is also located along the northern tip of the 100 acre park. It also houses a museum.
