Round Island Passage Light is located between Mackinac Island & Round Island, marking this busy but dangerous shipping lane. It was built in 1947 to replace the duties of nearby Round Island Lighthouse, which was deactivated in early 1947. Previous to the lights, ships used the longer but safer south channel through the straits.

The reinforced concrete tower stands at 60 foot tall. The active light features an 190mm optic, which casts a red beam every 4 seconds. The light was automated in 1973. Many tourists pass the light each day aboard the numerous ferry rides to and from Mackinac Island. One of the ferry boats is featured in the above photo.
