Grand Traverse (Cat's Head Point) Light was built in 1853 to mark the entrance of Grand Traverse Bay. The present light was built in 1858, featuring a 4th order Fresnel lens.
A large brick fog signal building & smaller oil house was added in 1899. The light is now a museum, and the tower is open for climbing. A metal light tower was built nearby in 1972.
