White River Light was built in 1875. 5 yrs earlier, a channel was cut from Lake Michigan into adjacent White Lake. The light was built due to the increased traffic.
The light is similar to McGulpin's Point Light, along the Straits of Mackinac (see Michigan: East). A maritime museum is housed inside, and the tower can be climbed.
