The Grand Island Old Front Range Light was constructed in 1917, along with a metal skeletal rear range light. Range lights are used as guides for ships approaching ports or channels to align themselves in shipping lanes. The octagonal wood framed tower has been kept in excellent shape through the years. Grand Island marks the end of Lake Erie, and the beginning of the Niagara River.

The light is located within the private Buffalo Launch Club Marina, but polite visitors are welcome to visit it for photographs. The original skeletal Rear Range Light was moved to the Dunkirk (Point Gratiot) Lighthouse museum complex in Dunkirk, New York, and still stands today for viewing. I have not been able to find much on the history of these lights, and welcome any information.
