Saugerties Lighthouse is located at the end of a 1/2 mile long nature trail on the north side of Esopus Creek. The area was created by dredging spoils from the creek in 1889. A distinct ecosystem has evolved through the years into a beautiful hardwood forest, sandy beach, & lowland marsh. As many as 140 species of birds consistantly visit the area.
The light & tower is open to the public during the summer for touring on weekends and holidays during certain hours. The grounds can be visited via the nature trail during daylight hours. A museum devoted to the station's history is housed within. For a special weekend getaway, the light has been recently converted into a bed & breakfast with 2 rooms.
