Prices Creek Front Range Light is the last remaining evidence of the numorous range lights that were once scattered along a 26 mile stretch of the Cape Fear River from Wilmington to Folly Beach. The range lights were constructed around 1848 to 1851. The Upper Jetty (2), Campbells Island, Orton Point, and Prices Creek Rear Range Lights were all destroyed by the Confederacy.

A range light and two subsequent lighthouses were also built at the southern tip of Fort Fisher from 1817, 1836, & 1866. The 1st was destroyed by fire, the 2nd by the Confederacy, and the 3rd from an unknown fate. The abandoned Prices Creek Light is located on a small spit of land just north of the ferry docks. The best view is from riding the Southport-Fort Fisher Ferry.
