The Conneaut North Breakwater Light is based on a prototype "remote control pierhead station for the Great Lakes", designed in 1934. A yellow brick control building was also built on shore to house the auxiliary generator and equipment to monitor the light. The 60 foot tall pyramidal steel light was automated in 1971.

Previous beacons included pier lights from 1835, 1885, 1897, and the light from 1920 that was replaced by the existing structure. A pair of 1906 range lights were also built, but no longer exist. A keeper's quarters from 1873 still exists, but was converted into a private duplex in 1905. The lighthouse is still active.
