Huron Harbor Light was built in 1939, when the existing pier was extended to 3/4 mile offshore. The 'Art Deco' pyramidal structure was one of the first on Lake Erie to have an electrically powered beacon, casting it's light over a 12 mile radius. The lighthouse was actually the third to be built in Huron.

The first light in Huron was built in 1835 of wood. The light was ill-equipped to deal with strong Lake Erie winds, and was eventually destroyed by a fierce storm in May of 1854. The fully enclosed second lighthouse was built in 1857 of iron, which served it's function until the pier was extended in 1939.
