Castle Hill Lighthouse is a very unique all granite light built on the rocky ledge along the eastern mouth of Narragansett Bay next to Newport Harbor. The light was built in 1890, along with a keeper's dwelling and 1300 lb fog bell. In 1899 the fog bell was upgraded to a 2000 pounder, and the light upgraded to a 5th order Fresnel lens.
The dwelling was destroyed by a hurricane in 1938, and the fog bell later removed. The light is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The tower is not open to the public for climbing, but the grounds are accessible. There is a 1/4 mile path from the Castle Hill Cove Marina's parking lot through the woods to the light and rocky shoreline.
