North to previous Prudence Island South to next light Castle Hill Rose Island Light was built in 1869. Upon completion of the Newport Bridge in 1969, the station lost it's importance & was closed. The light was restored in 1990 after years of neglect. I snapped this photograph aboard a cruise on the Madeleine Schooner, docked in Newport. It was a sunny autumn day in New England, perfect for sailing around the scenic harbor & bay.
