Ships heading to Racine Harbor from the north were visually blocked from seeing the Racine lights by a point of land known as Wind Point. The land mass itself was also hard to see in foul weather, so the Lighthouse Board decided in 1870 to add a light at the point. The Wind Point (Racine Point) Lighthouse was then completed in 1880 at the cost of $100,000.

The 108 foot tall conical brick tower is the tallest in Wisconsin. The 22 ft. diameter base has 7 foot thick walls. The keeper's quarters features three apartments, housing the main keeper and two assistants. A brick fog signal building was added in 1900. The light originally featured a 3rd Order Fresnel lens, but now houses a modern rotating airport-style beacon.
