The Flume Gorge is located within The Franconia Notch State Park, north of Lincoln, New Hampshire. The gorge offers a spectacular 2 mile hike through a natural chasm on gravel paths, wooden bridges, & balconies. Visitors travel over two covered bridges, past various waterfalls including Avalanche Falls, and through the 800 foot long gorge, with 90 ft high moss covered walls.
It was a fairly warm and humid day during our hike through the gorge, but the stunning beauty of the rock formations and various waterfalls far outweighed the uncomfortable weather. The sense of being within some sort of "pre-historic" era was overwhelming (we spotted no dinasaurs though). Included within the Waterfalls Gallery is a photo I shot of the 45 foot tall Avalanche Falls.
