The Sandwich Boardwalk, Town Beach, and adjacent salt marsh is located on the north shore of the upper cape, and only ten minutes from the Sagamore Bridge onto Cape Cod. The location is a little out of the way from most typical tourists traps, quietly hiding behind a few back roads. The hidden location is what makes the area so charming, although we have never been there during peak season.
Each of our trips to Cape Cod always begins with a journey down the boardwalk to the beach late in the day. It has become some sort of ritual to attest that "We're back on the cape again". Each plank of the boardwalk is inscribed with names of those who donated to its construction. Half of the fun is reading all the silly names some have chosen to use, including funny knick names or pet names.
