Avalanche Falls is located at the northern edge of the Flume Gorge. Discovered in 1808, the Flume is a natural gorge extending 800 feet at the base of Mt. Liberty, within The Franconia Notch State Park. The walls of Conway granite rise perpendicularly to a height of 70-90 feet, and are covered with a colorful moss.
I felt the sense of being within some sort of "pre-historic" setting while hiking through the gorge. It was a fairly warm & humid day, but the stunning beauty of the waterfalls and rock formations far outweighed the uncomfortable weather. The cool mist of the falls was a welcome feeling after hiking up the 2 mile trail.
